December 10th, 2015 marked Foster’s Food Fair – IGA’s 35th Anniversary. In 1980, David Foster identified the need for a modern supermarket on Grand Cayman that provided quality food and a larger selection of items at a lower cost. With the help of his mother, Alta, and brother, Steve, the trio opened Foster’s Food Fair. The Airport Store, with less than 6,000 square feet and 25 employees, was the beginning of what has become a staple of service and value for the people of Grand Cayman.

WE CARE has been our motto from the beginning, and we thought it fitting to enter our 35th Anniversary by focusing on the idea of caring. Thus, the Foster’s 35th Anniversary Year of Giving was born. The Year of Giving focuses on giving back to the community by, amongst other things, highlighting one charity a month that serves Cayman, recognizing and assisting individuals throughout the Islands that exemplify our WE CARE ethos, aiming to bring Caymanians from all walks of life and all parts of the world together as #onecayman.

Charity
The Year of Giving will bring with it, a charity component that gives local charities the chance to tell their stories and accept donations from Foster’s customers. Each of those eleven charities will be assigned to one month. During their month, Foster’s will promote the charity by telling their story and encouraging customers to donate their change, round up their transaction to the nearest dollar, or make any value donation at the register. At the end of the month, the charity will receive a cheque for the amount donated plus $250 from Foster’s. The month of February will focus on the Cayman Islands Humane Society, who provides shelter, care and attention to all unwanted companion animals, and seeks out responsible, loving homes for them.

Grocery Giveaway
This promotion will run for the month of February. Being the Year of Giving, we not only
want to give back, we want to inspire others to give too. We are giving away free groceries to the value of $1,600. Four lucky customers will each win $200 in free groceries, with an additional $200 to pay it forward.

To enter the promotion, customer must purchase two specially marked products from sponsor brands Always, Gain, Secret, and Pampers.

“The Foster’s Year of Giving focuses on giving back to the community that continuously supports us, and we are thrilled to be able to give back by paying for bus rides throughout the campaign. Many thanks to our sponsors, Digicel and LOOP Cayman, who have helped make this initiative possible.” –Foster’s Senior Marketing Manager, Julian Foster.

Show You Care
Unsung heroes are all around us – our friends, our neighbors, our coworkers, and our family members. Often, these unsung heroes who give freely of their time and resources to help those around them are not recognized. This year, Foster’s wants to make sure these heroes are recognized by their community for the hard work they put into creating a friendlier and happier Cayman.

Share Your Story
The Year of Giving brings with it 35 years of photos, stories, and memories. “My brothers, sisters, and I have spent most of our lives growing up in Foster’s and have many stories and memories. In fact, most family get-togethers end up with us retelling stories of our dad and how he always wanted more for his family, his company, and for his community. Of course, we always have our own versions of the story, but no matter how many times we hear them, the same stories always make us smile and remember him. He was a tough man but his toughness wasn’t mean, it came from his heart to make us better and to grow the business.
It was that toughness that allowed him to grow a business that his friends and colleagues
told him he shouldn’t even get into.” – Managing Director, Woody Foster

Should you have any stories or photos you wish to share with us about our history, please do not hesitate to send them our way! We welcome any reflections that have made us the company you know and love! Go to www.wecare.ky and click on Show You Care to share

It is with humble and full hearts that we execute such a fully encompassing year-long campaign that strives to highlight our local family of customers and community.
