Cayman Islands Under 20 National Team defeat Anguilla [but lose to Haiti] in CFU World Cup Qualifiers
The Cayman Islands Under 20 Boys’ National Football Team rebounded from their opening day loss to Bermuda by defeating Anguilla 4-1 on Friday afternoon at the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under 20 World Cup Qualifiers being played in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Zachary Scott opened the scoring for the Cayman Islands in the 24th minute with Sebastian Martinez adding a second in 31st and Michael Martin-Cruz rounding off an excellent first half for the Islanders by netting his country’s third in the 39th minute.
Leighton Thomas sealed the victory with his 62nd minute strike before Anguilla’s Tyrique,Lake pulled one back in injury time to end the scoring at 4-1.
In the second game, Haiti defeated Bermuda 3-0 to top the group with six points. Bermuda and the Cayman Islands share second spot with three points each although Bermuda edge out the Islanders in the ‘head-to-head’ category. Anguilla are fourth with zero points
On the final day of competition scheduled for Sunday, July 3rd, the Cayman Islands will face hosts Haiti while Bermuda play Anguilla.
The Cayman Islands are still in with a chance of topping the group or at worst, finishing as runners-up and possibly advancing to the second round of the competition.
Group winners will join Group 1 winners Antigua & Barbuda, Group 2 winners Trinidad & Tobago and Group 4 winners St. Kitts & Nevis along with the three best runners-up in the Final Round of CFU Qualifiers scheduled for October 21 to October 30, 2016 in Curacao.

Haiti finished top of Group 3 with the maximum nine points from three wins, Bermuda was second with six points (they defeated Anguilla 6-0 ), the Cayman Islands finished third with three points, and Anguilla was bottom with zero points.

The Under 20 Boys’ National Football Team ended their 2016 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under 20 World Cup qualifying campaign after a 5-0 loss to hosts Haiti at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince on Sunday evening
Haiti’s Kenley Dede scored twice in the 44th and 90th minutes and Roberto Louima, Stevenson Guillaume and Jean Francois each scored in the 60th, 66th and 84th minutes respectively to eliminate the Cayman Islands from advancing to the Final Round.
Haiti topped Group 3 with a maximum of nine points from three wins, Bermuda finished second with six points after defeating Anguilla 6-0 in the second game on Sunday evening, the Cayman Islands were third with three points and Anguilla finished bottom with zero points.
With the 6-0 defeat of Anguilla, Bermuda secure one of the three best runners-up spots and will advance with Haiti, Group 1 winners Antigua & Barbuda, Group 2 winners Trinidad & Tobago, Group 4 winners St. Kitts & Nevis and hosts Curacao to the Final Round of CFU Qualifiers scheduled for October 21 to October 30, 2016 in Curacao.
Next up for this Cayman Islands Under 20 team will be preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games with CFU Olympic Qualifiers beginning in 2018.
The Cayman Islands team return home on Monday evening.

Haiti – Football : Haiti crushes the Cayman Islands [5-0] and qualified for the 2nd round Sunday at the Stade Sylvio Cator, as part of preliminary round (CONCACAF) of qualifiers for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup (KOREA 2017), the men selection of Grenadiers under twenty (U-20) won the victory against the Cayman Islands [5-0] (Kenley Dédé (2 goals) Roberto Luima, Stevenson Guillaume and Jean Renaud Jean François).
For this 3rd and final match, the Coach Wilfrid Montilas made four changes : lthe goalkeeper of Tempête FC Jhon Reginald Datilus gave way to Ednaud Stephen (Baltimore SC). EIn midfield, Yvenet Noel is replaced by Ebens Mardy while Johnson Jeudy was aligned instead Leverton Pierre. At the attack, Ronaldo Damus of Real of Cap gave way to the benefit of Michenaïder Chery.
