This summer, as Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) continues its solid commitment to Cayman’s young people, the Company welcomed 19 students to its annual Summer Vocational and Internship Programme.

The programme is hosting nine university level students who began at various times in May and

June, and 10 high school students who were welcomed on July 7th.

Human Resources Analyst and Programme Coordinator Anika Conolly says the summer placement aims to “expose the young people of Cayman to an environment that would give them a clearer understanding about the real world of work and allow them to make more informed decisions about their career goals.”

University student Hilda Rivers says, “The first-hand experience I am getting now is different from the assignments I did in school. This experience is enhancing my knowledge and putting what I’ve learnt in school to good use.” Miss Rivers is working with the Human Resources Department.

Seventeen year old Garin Ritch says, “With this experience, I am learning a lot in the Electrical Maintenance Department about how transformers and substations in the Power Plant work.” It is Garin’s first time with the Company. He added, “Since this is my first year, I am trying to learn as much as possible and hope to come back next year.”

That is the attitude all students are encouraged to have. For those who perform well, the programme remains an open door of opportunities. Many students return for a second year of experience, some remain on temporary contracts, and some even move on to becoming full-time CUC employees.

CUC is proud to continue its support of the Cayman Islands’ youths. The Summer Vocational and

Internship Programme is now in its 15th year. Photos:
