Minister of Education, Training and Employment in the Cayman Islands, the Hon. Rolston Anglin, has challenged young people to take the title of future leaders seriously, telling them they need to become agents of change in their community and ultimately in the country.

Mr. Anglin was speaking at the opening of a Youth Forum organised by the Caribbean Development Bank as part of activities leading up to its 42^nd Annual Meeting, which is being hosted this year by the Cayman Islands.

The Education Minister acknowledged that a lot of time the notion that the youth are future leaders is at conflict with the action of adults and that serious thought must be given to finding a way to effectively incorporate young people in the fabric of the community so that they wind up taking an active role in shaping the future.

But he said he doesn’t believe that this is a job for the adults, telling the participants in the Forum that they have to believe that they can change the world and that they must live this belief day in and day out.

Mr. Anglin said one way they may begin to prepare themselves to be a master of their own destiny is to grasp every development opportunity that becomes available.

“Take advantage of every one of them even the ones that aren’t necessarily something that you associate with right now – get out of your comfort zone. Take advantage of all opportunities that this community offers you because it is those building blocks that are going to allow you, through experience, through hard work, through networking, to become real change agents in your world and be able to change this island and indeed the world as a whole.”

The Forum was part of the Bank’s Youth Outreach programme called Vybzing. The theme was, Citizen Security and the Development Agenda.
