Cayman: KPMG Gear Up event raises over CI$10,000 for LIFE
On Thursday, December 10, KPMG held its third annual Gear Up event, raising over CI$10,000 for this year’s beneficiaries, Literacy is for Everyone (LIFE). The annual charity holiday event was held on the roof terrace at KPMG’s SIX office. Guests were invited to network and enjoy drinks and canapés while viewing and purchasing luxury timepieces and jewelry from local vendors Magnum Jewelers, Island Jewellers and Kirk Freeport. A raffle was held throughout the evening to raise funds for LIFE, with prizes including a Mont Blanc genuine leather card holder and Mont Blanc signature writing instrument from Kirk Freeport, a CI$500 voucher from Island Jewellers and an 18-carat gold Cayman Islands map bracelet, exclusively designed by Magnum Jewelers. Founded in 2012, LIFE’s mission is to significantly increase literacy levels across the Cayman Islands by championing educational initiatives to target reading ability among school-age children and adults. KPMG worked closely with LIFE during the COVID-19 lockdown on the Education for Everyone initiative to provide laptops and internet access to over 1,600 students across Grand Cayman. Niko Whittaker, Partner at KPMG and organizer of the event said, “The Gear Up event continues to grow in terms of both attendance and the funds raised for charity year on year. 2020 has been especially difficult for so many, so we are thrilled to have raised over CI$10,000 for LIFE, a charity that invests in the future of both our children and our country.” “We are so thankful to those who attended and who so graciously donated at the event, as well as the vendors, who went above and beyond in their donations to the raffle. Gear Up is not only a great event to kick start the holiday season, but each year, it helps to support children’s futures through a different local charity.” |
