Cayman Brac: Layman E. Scott Sr. High School Hosts Career Fair at New Venue
Layman E. Scott Sr. High School’s (LSHS) annual Career Fair took place at the Aston Rutty Civic Centre for the first time on Friday, 12 April. This move to a more expansive venue was necessitated by a surge of interest from local businesses eager to connect with future Caymanian talent.
Themed “Beyond the Classrooms: Connecting With…”, the event brought together nearly 200 students from Years 6-12, including those from neighbouring primary schools, with representatives from a record-breaking 37 businesses across the Cayman Islands.
Ms. Yvette Gayle, Head of Humanities and event coordinator, expressed her gratitude for the event’s impressive growth. “We’ve truly outgrown the usual venue for our Careers Fair,” Ms. Gayle said. “This remarkable success is a testament to the dedication of our corporate partners and their unwavering commitment to the development of Caymanian youth.”
She likewise thanked the speakers, the District Administration and Lands team and all those who worked tirelessly to make the event possible.
Notable among the attendees was Deputy District Commissioner Ms. Chelsea Whittaker, Senior School Improvement Officer Mrs. Tammy Hopkins and Premier & Minister for Education Hon. Juliana O ‘Connor-Connolly.
The Premier congratulated the principal and staff on the event’s success and encouraged students to actively engage with professionals and explore potential career paths.
The Career Fair also featured welcome remarks by Head Girl, Karishma Seeram and the vote of thanks by Head Boy, Aryan Champawat as well as various exhibitions.
