(George Town, Cayman Islands – 22 August 2023) As a result of the inclement weather conditions experienced on Tuesday (22 August), the Port Authority Facility on the waterfront was struck by lightning, leading to a minor fire in a panel box which caused power to the Guard House to be lost.

Officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police (RCIPS) and the Cayman Islands Fire Services (CIFS) promptly responded to the scene and the fire was quickly contained. 

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

“The Port Authority would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the Fire Service for their quick response to this incident. We are working diligently to assess any necessary repairs to the electrical transformer and ensure the facility is fully operational as soon as possible”, said PACI Director Paul Hurlston.
