Cayman: Lions Aquatic Swimming Pool re-opens ahead of schedule
The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage is pleased to announce the re-opening of the Lions Aquatic Pool following a short period of closure.
“We have reopened the pool to the Swimming Association and swim clubs, ahead of schedule, following our closure for essential remedial works,” said Director of Sports Kurt Hydes.
“Our swimming coaches are ready to host schools P.E. lessons once the Department of Education Services resumes them. We appreciate that the closure has caused some disruption to our swim clients but the repairs were necessary for safety reasons. We would like to thank the public for their patience and their support as we work to ensure the safety of both clients and staff going forward,” he added.
Repair work to the 32-year-old pool included removal and installation of new in-cast steps, removal of in-pool lights and the installation of new LED ones.
The Director advised that the age of the facility and its high usage levels meant that maintenance work was unavoidable. He further noted that global materials shortages due to Covid had also been a factor in the length of the closure. The Ministry for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage is however, very pleased to have the facility reopened and will continue to make upgrades as necessary.
