Cayman: Man Arrested for Firearm Offenses Has Now Been Formally Charged

Following an incident that took place Friday 13th December at the Dolphin’s Plaza on Eastern Avenue, the 30-year-old-man who was arrested in relation to the firearm has been formally charged with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm, Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm (Ammunition) and Possession of Cocaine.
The man remains in custody and will appear before the court on Monday 16 December.

Initial Release: 13 December
Just before 3:30AM today, Friday 13 December, the Firearm Response Unit whilst conducting patrols, attended the Dolphin Plaza on Eastern Avenue. Whilst there they stopped and searched a man behaving suspiciously and during a further search of the surrounding area officers recovered a loaded handgun.
A quantity of white powdery substance resembling cocaine was subsequently recovered from this person.
The man, age 30, of North Side, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as drug related offenses. The man is currently in custody pending further investigations.
A second man, age 28, of Bodden Town, who was also present at the location, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and subsequently bailed as investigations into this matter continues.
