Cayman: Marine mooring project proposed for LNG distribution
George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, 24 November 2020
Breakers LNG (Cayman) Ltd. and Eagle LNG Partners LLC from Jacksonville, Florida have partnered on a project that seeks to bring Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) to Grand Cayman via a floating mooring in the Breakers area.
While the project is in its early stages, the aim is for LNG to be delivered from ship to shore through a marine mooring and land connection, similar to the fuel trans-shipment process at Jackson Point in George Town. The project plan does not require a port. The plan also entails a holding tank to be built in an existing quarry.
The team has presented preliminary plans to the Cayman Islands Department of Environment and initial feedback received is being considered as part of the project design. All environmental impact assessments and appropriate mitigations will be addressed per the Department’s requirements. There are also plans to meet with Caucus to present the project over the next month, and a public consultation process will be undertaken.
