Cayman McKeeva Bush has resigned as Speaker

Dr.Hon. W. McKeeva Bush

Cayman Islands Speaker of the Cayman Islands Parliament has announced on Radio Cayman that he has decided to resign.

He said, some people [“constituents, colleagues, friends, …”]had asked him to stay in office “but in the interest of all parties given the political nature the situation had taken on”, he had decided to resign.

He will not be leaving his post, however, until the end of the current session of Parliament that started yesterday (Friday 7). This means he will stay on as Speaker until 30th November.

Bush’s letter of resignation was handed to Cayman’s Premier, Wayne Panton, last Tuesday (4).

He confirmed, as has already been reported in other Media Houses, that he has done nothing wrong. He was resigning in the best interests of the jurisdiction and will remain part of the government.
