Cayman: MOE & DES Announce Plans to Temporarily Relocate CIFEC

From Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education (MOE) and Department of Education Services (DES) announced that the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC) will temporarily operate from an alternative site at the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year due to unexpected delays in completing the renovations to the former George Hicks site.

CIFEC Director, Mr. Mark Seerattan, remarked: ” We have been collaborating closely with the DES and the administrators of the Clifton Hunter and John Gray High Schools to finalise plans for the start of school, and will announce specific details shortly.”

Mr. Seerattan further explained that the team has explored various solutions, including split-site arrangements and alternative ways to leverage available resources and spaces without compromising the quality of education.

DES Director Mr. Mark Ray noted, “We recognise the inconvenience and uncertainty this situation may cause for some of our students, parents and staff. However, we are committed to minimising disruptions while providing the best possible education for our students.”

He further assured stakeholders that the DES is in constant communication with the project team and will provide stakeholders with regular updates on the progress of the new facility. “We share your concerns, and are dedicated to addressing them promptly and effectively,” he added.
