The Cayman National Choir and the Cayman National Orchestra gave a sound performance on Wednesday and Thursday (9&10) at Elmslie Memorial United Church to welcome in Christmas.

The performance was called “Sing Lullaby” and with one of the numbers “A Boomwhacker Christmas” it seemed some members of the orchestra were trying to send members of the audience to sleep when they wacked their heads!

This item brought the audience much laughter as four of their number volunteered to sit with builder’s hard hats on whilst the musicians hit them in time with the rest of the orchestra to produce a pleasing sound. The roof of the church nearly came off with the applause it all got.

Musical Director Sue Horrocks is a cheerful and talented conductor of both the choir and orchestra and even played the piano on one of the numbers. The main choir accompanists were Naomi Allnutt on piano and Catharine Boyd Moss on organ. The President is Marius Gaina.

The singing and the music was outstanding for a wholly amateur choir and orchestra and I was most moved by the delightful and even rousing pieces that were very familiar yet seemed fresh because of the arrangements.

We in the audience were given our share to sing a long too.

Both the Wednesday and Thursday performances were well attended with Thursday being “filled to capacity” as our Publisher likes to express it. She was there on both nights.

Thank you Sue and everyone for getting me into the Christmas spirit.

Well done…. AGAIN.
