TEach year on National Heroes Day, the Cayman Islands honours residents who have made valuable contributions to our nation while remembering our National Heroes.
The theme for National Heroes Day (NHD) 2025 is Celebrating the Icons of Business and Entrepreneurship: A Tribute to Caymanian Business Ingenuity, Creativity, Successes, Hard Work, Innovation and Leadership. This year’s theme highlights the remarkable achievements and contributions of Caymanians who have shaped the nation’s business landscape through their innovation, dedication, and leadership.

I took at look at the criteria to nominate a couple of people I knew. Then u read all the draconian qualifications it took to be eligible. It surely is a joke. I have been here since 1968 and I cannot think of a single person that meets the criteria.
I note the reluctance of successive governments to recognize those that contributed to the success of the financial centre including not just Caymanians but others.
Where would we be without the foresight of Bill Walker, Sir Vassell, Jim McDonald, John Collins,, Brian Bothwell, Mike Austin, Tim Ridley, Ian Kilpatrick, Harry Chisholme, Lenny Ebanks, Jennifer Dilbert.
These people need be recognized as heroes. Why are they being ignored.
