The Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport & Development (PAHITD) and The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman (RCGC) are proud to announce the installation of a new public drinking water fountain on Cardinal Avenue in George Town. Located conveniently next to Effy Jewelry, this fountain features both a bubbler tap and a bottle filling station, offering clean, potable water to residents and visitors.

This installation is part of Rotary’s “Water for All” initiative, a nationwide effort to ensure access to clean water throughout the Cayman Islands. The Cardinal Avenue fountain is the first of two planned for central George Town and aligns with the goals of PAHITD’s George Town Revitalization Initiative (GTRI) to enhance the daily experience for everyone in the area.

“The addition of this water fountain is a straightforward but meaningful way to encourage the use of refillable bottles and decrease reliance on single-use plastics,” said Mr. Colin Lumsden, George Town Manager and GTRI Coordinator. “In tropical climates like ours here in Cayman, staying hydrated is so important. This fountain ensures that anyone passing through Cardinal Avenue has free, easy access to refreshing drinking water, helping everyone stay healthy and hydrated.” This project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of several partners within the Ministry’s Central Business District Enhancement Project (CBDEP) and local businesses, including Water Authority Cayman, Robson Construction, and Vision Marketing. The fountain is part of a broader initiative to introduce new, sustainability-focused amenities to George Town. Notably, Cardinal Avenue is also the site of Grand Cayman’s first smart solar bench, offering free public Wi-Fi and solar-powered charging ports, thanks to a partnership with SALT Technology.

Through partnerships like this, we are not only improving public health and environmental outcomes but also building a stronger, more connected community.”

As the CBDEP progresses, another drinking water fountain is planned for the area. This initiative highlights the GTRI’s dedication to sustainability and improving the well-being of George Town’s residents and visitors. By encouraging the use of refillable water bottles, the project also contributes to reducing single-use plastic waste.
