Cayman: Operation Winter Guardian Continues

From RCIPS

Over the past weekend, between Friday 27 December and Monday 30 December, there have been 26 reports of motor vehicle collisions on the roadways and of the Cayman Islands. Additionally, three persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, one of which resulted in a further search of the driver’s vehicle. During this search police located and seized a quantity of ganja within the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a man, age 37 of George Town, was further arrested for drug related offenses, including operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs. He was later bailed pending further investigations.

The RCIPS will continue be out in numbers over this period and will be conducting spontaneous and simultaneous spot checks, as well assist with crowd control and safety where possible. Members of the public are also being depended on to be accountable for their safety and the safety of those they are responsible for.

You are encouraged to reduce your speeds, not to drink and drive and if you are a designated driver, ensure that you maintain your status and exercise good driving habits that will ensure your safety and the safety of your passengers.

We continue to partner with the National Drug Counsel and Compass Media to maximise the message for the public to use the Purple Ribbon Buses and to take the purple ribbon pledge to be a designated sober driver through the Arrive Alive 345 Campaign. To find out more about the Purple Ribbon Buses and the Arrive Alive 345 Campaign, please visit www.arrivealive.ky .

“For New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, I am encouraging everyone to utilise the purple ribbon buses so that we may all get home safely and avoid any further tragedies on our roads,” said Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks, “Whiles the numbers appear to the marginally reducing from previous weeks, these numbers are still significant and need to be addressed. Please ensure that you visit the Arrive Alive 345 Campaign website, study the routes and incorporate the buses in your festive plans today.”

The RCIPS would like to wish everyone a safe and prosperous new year.
