Cayman: Parliament Summary for 8 December 2022

Proceedings in Parliament yesterday, Thursday, 8 December 2022, included tabling 20 reports and papers by Government Ministers and an Official Member. This included 13 reports about the finances of the Cayman Islands, with one tabled about Moody’s Investors Service granting an Aa3 Stable rating for the Cayman Islands, the same as the UK’s and just three notches below the highest rating of Moody’s.
Also, Thursday being dedicated to dealing with Private Member’s Motions, two private motions were debated, with Government rejecting one and accepting one.
Private Member’s Motion No. 7 of 2022-2023: Implementing the Recommendations in the 2020 Report from the Committee on Vehicle Imports and Transportation was rejected with 8 votes against from the Government and 6 votes for from the Opposition.
Private Member’s Motion No. 4 of 2022-2023: Motion to create a taskforce on North Sound water-sports operations and a Moratorium on the granting of new wild life interactions zone licenses was accepted unanimously.
Parliament will reconvene at 10am on Monday 12 December.
