Cayman: Play like a pro: Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Week 13-17 November

Girls playing in Jr. NBA 2023

Dart and the National Basketball Association (NBA) continue activations on Grand Cayman this November as part of their partnership to create and enhance opportunities for youth sports.

Dart and the Jr. NBA’s “Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA week” includes a series of training clinics and a 3×3 tournament, all focused on enhancing fundamental skills and core values of the game, including teamwork, unity, respect, commitment and confidence.

Supported by the Cayman Islands Basketball Association (CIBA), the active week kicks off with a dedicated clinic for local Special Olympics athletes and coaches on Wednesday, 13 November.

All aspiring female basketball players ages 10 to 17 are invited to “Her Time to Play,” a clinic for girls on Thursday, 14 November from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Visiting coaches from the Jr. NBA will lead on-court training and off-court life skills lessons, helping girls build confidence and values, including discipline and leadership.

Dart is working with CIBA and Athlete Centered Experience (ACX) to invite select players to a Skills Challenge on Friday, 17 November to compete for prizes in a variety of shooting and dribbling contests.

The week will conclude with a 3×3 tournament for U-16, U-14 and U-12 boys and girls divisions on Saturday, 16 and Sunday, 17 November. Teams are assigned through schools and interested athletes should speak to their P.E. teacher or principal to register their interest.

“Dart believes in the power of youth sports to strengthen communities. Teaming up with the NBA to offer training and competitions presents an exciting opportunity for local athletes to enhance their skills both on and off the court,” said Dart’s Asset & Community Portfolio Manager Dominic Ross. “We hope all schools and interested players at every level will participate.”

Dart’s community partnership with the NBA is made possible by the Kenneth B. Dart Foundation, and events are sponsored by Dart with no cost for participants. The clinics and tournament take place at the Camana Bay Sports Complex in the Arts & Recreation Centre (ARC) or the Cayman International School gymnasium.
