UPDATE: Man Charged With Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm

UPDATE (11 March):

Following the police operation in George Town on Friday, 8 March, the man who was arrested, a 26-year-old of George Town, has now been formally charged with two counts of Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm.

He appears in court today, 11 March.

Initial Release (9 March):

Yesterday, Friday 8 March, police carried out a series of operations in the George Town District.  Shortly after 1:00PM, officers had cause to stop a vehicle that was travelling on Shedden Road.  The vehicle was being driven by a single male occupant and a search was carried out of the man and the vehicle.  

During the search, the man attempted to escape, but was apprehended by officers.  Officers located several rounds of ammunition and a component part from a firearm along with a quantity of cash and suspected hard drugs. 

The man, age 26, of George Town was subsequently arrested on Suspicion of Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and possession of a quantity of suspected cocaine.

Following his arrest, officers conducted a search of the man’s residence, in the vicinity of Patricks Island.  He remains in custody pending further investigations.

This operation forms part of the RCIPS’ ongoing efforts to target individuals involved in gun and gang violence in the Cayman Islands.
