Cayman: Police Formally Charge Man in Relation to Incident at ORIA

A 30-year-old-man of George Town has been formally charged by the police with Assault ABH, Possession of an Offensive Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Bullet Proof Vest following his arrest about an incident that took place just after 2:30 AM on Friday 7 February at the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA). 

It was reported that a man attended the location and was behaving suspiciously. He spoke with a member of staff at the location who questioned his reason for being at the location at which time he attacked the worker with a knife. The employee managed to disarm the man, however, during the altercation the worker sustained what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. After being disarmed the man fled the location.  

Police were then called to the location following initial investigations, the man was identified and located. He was later arrested on suspicion of assault ABH and possession of an offensive weapon. 

Following his arrest, a search was conducted at his residence. During the search a bulletproof vest was recovered by the police and the man was further arrested for the unlawful possession of the ballistic vest contrary to the Firearms Act (2025 Revision). 

The police later formally charged him, and he appeared in court yesterday, Monday, February 10. While there he was granted court bail to return on 25 February.
