At about 2:40AM today, 7 July, police received a report of an aggravated burglary and assault which had taken place at an address off Birch Tree Hill Road in West Bay. It was reported that a man had broken into a residence while carrying a machete, attacked one of the occupants with the machete and then fled the scene. The suspect and the occupants are known to each other.

The victim received serious injuries to his arm and foot. He was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment, and remains in hospital.

The matter is currently under investigation.
