Cayman: Police Recover Firearm During Search Warrant in Bodden Town

Officer with the RCIPS carried out a search warrant at a residence in Bodden Town on the morning of Saturday 29 April. During the search of the residence, which was occupied at the time by two men and a woman, a loaded handgun was recovered. All three persons, a 43-year-old man of Bodden Town, a 44-year-old woman of Bodden Town and a 20-year-old-man of Bodden Town, were then arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
During a further search of the residence, a significant quantity of cash in both Cayman Islands Dollars and US dollars was recovered, with documentation suggesting that the source of the cash was through illegal gambling. The 44-year-old-woman of the Bodden Town address was further arrested on suspicion of illegal gambling, while the 43-year-old-man was further arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja following the recovery of a quantity of ganja found during the search.
The 43-year-old-man has now been formally charged with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm, Possession of Ammunition and Possession of Ganja. He is expected to appear in court today, 1 May. The other two persons have now been bailed pending further investigation.
