Cayman: Police recover firearm in a vehicle Stop and Search

At 12:45AM on Sunday 17 October, officers from the RCIPS Firearm Response Unit had cause to stop and search a black Honda Stream motor vehicle, along Shedden Road, in the vicinity of Mary Street, George Town. A search of the vehicle was carried out with the assistance of the K-9 Unit, and a loaded black and silver handgun was found beneath the driver seat. (Attached is a photo of the recovered handgun).
The gun was recovered as evidence and the driver of the vehicle, age 37, of George Town, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He was taken into custody where he remains pending further investigation.
Yesterday, Monday, 18 October, the arrested man was formally charged by the police for Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm (Ammunition), contrary to the Firearm Law (2008 Revision). He is expected to appear in court today, Tuesday 19 October, at 10AM.
