Cayman: Police recover unlicensed firearm in George Town

Just after 9:30PM on Sunday, 26 November, officers from the RCIPS Firearm Response Unit had cause to attend a location on Eastern Avenue, George Town where it was believed that illegal activities involving the use of an unlicensed firearm had taken place. When officers arrived they observed a vehicle that appeared to have damage consistent with gunshots and carried out a search of the vehicle and the surrounding area.
The next day, an extensive day light search of the grounds was carried out, resulting in the recovery of spent cartridge cases and one 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
One man, age 39, of George Town, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He has been bailed pending ongoing enquiries.
