Cayman: Premier’s Statement on passing of Governor Dinwiddy
Former Governor of the Cayman Islands, Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy, CMG, who helped lead the Cayman Islands through the recovery process in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, passed away today Thursday, 1 April 2021.
Mr Dinwiddy served as Governor of the Cayman Islands from May 2002 – October 2005. His appointment came after nearly 30 years as a career diplomat.
The people of the Cayman Islands will always remember him for his many contributions to assist our community after the passage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004. His compassion, humility and commitment to serving the Cayman Islands will never be forgotten.
Mr Dinwiddy continued to be a friend of the Cayman Islands long after his tenure as Governor ended, making many trips back to our shores. He also worked to support the Cayman Islands Government Office in London as an active member of the Friends of the Cayman Islands.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Cayman Islands I offer deepest condolences to his wife Emma and extended family.
To mark his passing the Cayman Islands flag will fly at half mast alongside the Union Jack on all Government buildings from the remainder of today and all day on Tuesday, 6 April.
