Cayman: RCIPS apologizes for premature identification of victim in fatal collision
Update (24 October)
The RCIPS wishes to clarify that the identity of the victim of the fatal collision which occurred on Friday, 21 October in East End, has not yet been formally established. As such, no confirmation of the identity of the victim should have been released by the RCIPS.
The Commissioner of Police sincerely apologizes for the error made in prematurely identifying the victim, and for the distress this publication has understandably caused to the grieving family.
The previously issued media release has been removed from the RCIPS website and social media pages. Formal identification will be progressed as speedily as possible in consultation with the family.
Initial Release (21 October):
Police are currently on the scene of a fatal single-vehicle collision which was reported shortly after 6:00AM today, 21 October, involving a silver Honda Fit with a lone occupant, on the Queens Highway, in the vicinity of Sunnyfield Road.
The roadway in that area is currently closed as the scene is being processed, and traffic is being diverted back towards Frank Sound Road and East End respectively.
