As we enter the weekend, the RCIPS would like to remind the public to do the right thing and not drink and drive. Last month, over 20 persons have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). Of these arrests, officers have found that persons have provided breath tests that are considerably over the limit of .100, in one case over .300. 
 
Traffic officers will be extra vigilant during their patrols, especially at nights and weekends, as part of our continued efforts to deter persons from drinking and driving. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and seek alternative means of getting around when out drinking.
 
RCIPS take a zero-tolerance approach to persons who drive under the influence and contravene of the Cayman Islands Traffic Law. Anyone, on conviction on a first offence of DUI is liable to a fined of $1000 and disqualified for a minimum of 12 months. You may also be subject to 6 months imprisonment. These penalties increase if you have been convicted previously convicted for DUI.
