Last Monday, 26 April, officers from our Community Policing Unit joined staff from the Education Department’s Primary Inclusion Units, to assist in hosting a swimming session at the Lions Aquatic Centre, for the students in the programme.

The Primary Inclusion Units assist Caymanian primary school students who are having challenges at their home schools. They work with the children and their families with the ultimate goal of reintegrating the children back into mainstream education. The programme is divided into two groups: Little Stars for the younger students, and Stepping Stones for the older students.

The RCIPS Community Policing Unit has been working with the Primary Inclusion Units for the past month.  As part of the initial session the officers were introduced to the children and conducted a demonstration with police dogs and patrol vehicles. The goal of the partnership is to allow the children to have meaningful interactions with police officers, and thus build the relationship and trust between the children and the RCIPS as a whole. 

The Community Officers join the Little Stars and Stepping Stones students for another swimming session this week, as the partnership between them continues.
