Cayman: RCIPS Issues Reminder As Gun Amnesty Enters Last Days

The National Gun Amnesty comes to a close at 7:00PM on Sunday, 11 August. This means that there are only three days remaining in which persons can take advantage of the opportunity to hand in illegal guns without fear of prosecution for possession of the weapon. This can be done using any of the methods outlined here.

“Although a number of items have been handed in so far, we know that there are numerous illegal guns which still remain in our communities,” says Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks.

“I am speaking directly to those who are in possession of illegal firearms, to make good of the last three days of this Gun Amnesty. After Sunday’s deadline, persons found in possession of an illegal firearm would have missed all opportunities to walk away anonymously, no questions asked.  I think we have gone to extreme lengths, including extending the deadline, to give persons the opportunity to do the right thing.  If you are caught with an illegal firearm outside of the parameters of the amnesty, you will face the full consequences of the law.”

The RCIPS encourages everyone to say no to guns, say no to violence and make the Cayman Islands Safer, and to take advantage of the last three days of the National Gun Amnesty.
