Cayman: RCIPS kicks off its Commissioners Cup and the Challenger Cup

Dress Parade Winners – TEAM TITANS

Yesterday, 10 May, the RCIPS Welfare Football Club kicked off its annual football league, the Commissioner’s Cup. The theme of the event is “Working In The Community, Working For The Community.” The competition is usually well supported by various communities across the islands who play against our police teams. This has historically resulted in positive police/community interactions.

The Commissioner of Police, Derek Byrne declared the competition open at the ceremony held at the Cayman Islands Football Association Field. The Minister of Sports, Youth, Culture and Home Affairs, the Hon. Bernie Bush was in attendance and expressed his appreciation for the police positively engaging members of the community through sports. The event is supported by the Cayman Islands Football Association and the President of the, Mr. Alfredo Whittaker was in attendance and encouraged the teams to continue their positive efforts to engage the youth through sports. Mr. Whittaker also showed his support by allowing access to the CIFA Field to have the games every Tuesday and Thursday for the next eight weeks.

The competition opened with eight RCIPS teams who will compete against various community teams as well as teams from the Health Services Authority, Her Majesty’s Prison Service, The Cayman Islands Regiment, The Cayman Islands Coast Guard and Friends of Police for the ultimate prize – ‘The Commissioner’s Cup’.

Yesterday, a dress parade competition took place amongst the participating teams. The competition was judged by a few guests at the event. The purple and white Titans won dress completion over the other six teams that participated.

Members of the public are invited to attend these games and to cheer on their favourite teams.
