The Governor’s Office has confirmed that His Excellency the Governor, Mr Martyn Roper has authorised the early, immediate release of Mr Sheldon Brown from Her Majesty’s Prison Northward under Section 39 (1)(d) of the Constitution. 

The decision to remit the remainder of Mr Brown’s sentence was taken in consultation with the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.   

Mr Brown was due to complete his sentence and be released unconditionally in mid-October 2019 for an attempted murder. 

The decision was taken given the short period remaining on his sentence, and due to the fact that he has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
