Grand Cayman, 01 July 2024: As Hurricane Beryl continues its way through the Caribbean, despite the slight shift from the previously projected path, residents are advised to expect changes in weather over the next 24 – 48 hours. It is still too early to predict with absolute certainty the strength and pathway of the storm. Residents are encouraged to prepare for the worst.

What to Expect:

Strong Winds and Heavy Rain: Expect powerful winds and significant rainfall that may lead to flooding and power outages.

Storm Surge: Coastal areas may experience storm surge, and heavy wave action posing a risk to coastal properties and low-lying areas.

Emergency Alerts: Stay tuned to official channels for continuous updates and instructions

Key Safety Preparations:

1. Secure Your Home: Ensure that all windows and doors are secure. Consider boarding up windows if you are in a vulnerable area.
2. Stock Essential Supplies: Have enough water, non-perishable food, medications, and other essentials to last at least 72 hours.
3. Create an Emergency Kit: Include items such as flashlights, batteries, a first-aid kit, important documents, and cash.
4. Know Your Evacuation Plan: Familiarize yourself with local evacuation routes and shelter locations. If you are in an evacuation zone, be ready to leave if instructed.
5. Stay Informed: Monitor official weather updates and alerts through local news and the National Weather Service.
