Cayman: Rotary Central’s 19th Annual Dr. Bill Hrudey Science Fair

Rotary Central Cayman Islands is proud to announce that the 19th annual Dr. Bill Hrudey Science Fair was held on Saturday, April 5th at Camana Bay’s Arts and Recreation Centre. This year’s event was a massive success, featuring a record total of 97 registered projects which spanned the scientific disciplines of earth sciences, food & health, life sciences, and physics, chemistry & computer science.

While announcing the official opening of the Science Fair, Rotary Central’s President Brendan Lee shared that, “Science is more than just theories and formulas—it is the key to solving global challenges and improving lives. Here in the Cayman Islands, we recognize the importance of nurturing scientific talent, and we are committed to creating opportunities that empower our youth to think critically, solve problems, and drive meaningful change.”

This year’s Science Fair saw participation from over 130 students across 15 local public and private schools in addition to several homeschooled students and including 9 projects from schools in Cayman Brac. The ages of the students competing ranged from as young as 5 years old, up to 17 years old.

The awards banquet was held on Saturday evening, attended by approximately 150 participants and guests, with an inspiring keynote speech being delivered by former Dr. Bill Hrudey Science Fair winner and now one of our experienced event judges, Chynna Retumban. Ms. Retumban is a Molecular Biologist with Cayman Islands Health Services Authority.

Over CI$15,000 in cash and prizes were awarded at the banquet. Please visit our website at rotarysciencefair.ky for a list of this year’s winners.

The continued success of the Dr. Bill Hrudey Science Fair would not be possible without our hard-working team of Rotary Central members, a dedicated group of approximately 20 volunteer judges from the local community and the support of our corporate sponsors – Dart Minds Inspired, Health City Cayman Islands, and Consolidated Water. We also wish to thank all the school science teachers, parents and, of course, all of the participating students.
