Grand Cayman, 16 June 2022 – The Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS) responded at 10.30 a.m. today (16 June 2022) to a 911 report of a structure fire at Radio Cayman, George Town.

On arrival, CIFS confirmed that it was a garbage fire in a nearby empty water cistern located behind the Radio Cayman building at a property in the Scranton area. CIFS crews responded swiftly and were able to extinguish the fire using high-pressure hose reels from one of the CIFS rapid intervention vehicles. This quick response prevented major damage to property and no injuries were reported.

The public is reminded that they are prohibited from burning garbage and materials without the proper permission. This is to avoid possible fire or damage to nearby property as a result of embers spreading due to wind movement.
