Cayman: The Hon Roy McTaggart, Leader of the Opposition and Political leader of The Progressives on Passing of HM The Queen
It is with great sadness and sorrow that we learned this afternoon of the death of her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen will be remembered for her dignity, wisdom and compassion. Over the seventy years of her reign, she has been a constant reflection of all that makes Great Britain great. Indeed, over those seventy years, she has seen much change across the world.
Here at home, too, the Cayman Islands has seen tremendous growth and change during her the reign. Her majesty granted us our Coat of Arms in 1958 and our first written Constitution in 1959. We fondly recall her visits here in 1983 and 1994, and she will be remembered and beloved by Caymanians for many years.
On behalf of the Opposition, the entire Progressives family, and indeed the Caymanian people, I offer condolences to the family of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, on her passing. I also offer condolences to the people of The United Kingdom.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
