Third Meeting of Parliament’s 2024-2025 Session to Begin on 31st January, Key Bills to be Debated – New Bills & Motions Added

The Third Meeting of the 2024-2025 Session of Parliament is set to begin on Friday, 31st January 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the House of Parliament, George Town. This decision was announced during the final Sitting of the Second Meeting on 16th December 2024 as the House adjourned.

During the upcoming Meeting, Members of Parliament (MPs) are expected to deliberate on significant legislative matters, including the following Bills being brought to the Parliament by the Government:

  • Referendum (Cruise Berthing Infrastructure, Gambling, and Cannabis) Bill, 2024
  • Customs and Border Control (Amendment) Bill, 2024
  • Beneficial Ownership Transparency (Amendment) Bill, 2024
  • National Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (Withdrawn upon a Motion during the First Sitting)
  • Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill, 2025
  • Grand Court (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (New)
  • Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (New)

In accordance with Parliament Standing Orders, the Meeting will also include Parliamentary Questions from Opposition Members directed to Government Ministers, Statements by Government Members, and Motions.

The public is invited to follow the proceedings through the live broadcasts on the Government’s YouTube channel, CIGTV cable network, and Radio Cayman. Members of the public are also welcome to attend in person at the House of Parliament on Fort Street in George Town after registering with Security. Relevant documents and updates will be posted below.

Order Papers for Each Sitting:

Order Papers, sometimes referred to as an agenda, are issued by the Office of the Clerk each morning of each Sitting of the Meeting. The Order Paper outlines which items of Business are being dealt with by the House that day, in strict adherence to the Standing Orders.

Parliamentary Questions

Members of the Opposition may submit Parliamentary Questions to Ministers and Members of the Cabinet in writing to the Clerk for the Honourable Speaker’s approval, in accordance with Standing Orders No. 20 through 23. Once the Question has been answered either in the Meeting or in writing afterward, it will be added below. (See past Questions.)

  1. The Elected Member for West Bay South to ask the Honourable Minister of PAHITD Question 1:  Can the Honourable Minister confirm whether the required coastal works licence, necessary for the completion of the Morgan’s Harbour dock, has now been obtained?
