Cayman to host regional veterinary conference

Veterinary_StudentsDuring the week of 4 -7 November 2014, approximately two to three hundred global and regional veterinarians and their families will visit the Cayman Islands as participants in the 28th Biennial Caribbean Veterinary Medical Association (CbVMA) Conference.

The Cayman Islands Veterinary Medical Association (CIVMA) is hosting the event at the Marriott Beach Resort and the three-day meeting of veterinary professionals will focus on the theme “Opening new frontiers in veterinary medicine: The work, the life, the balance”.

According to conference documentation the chosen theme has the ultimate goal of improving both animal and human quality of life by addressing how enhancements of animal health can provide benefits for all people in the Caribbean. Conference sessions promise to increase awareness of emerging diseases shared by people and animals, promote animal welfare, and highlight the “One-Health” concept.

Several world-renowned speakers in the veterinary, allied health and medical professions will deliver information on important veterinary topics that span the range of species and the diversity of interests in veterinary medicine. One of Cayman’s own local experts, Guy Harvey, PhD, will deliver the keynote address.

In addition to the educational material on the agenda, activities have been planned to involve attendees in local culture, ecology and the business of Cayman. Not coincidentally the conference is scheduled during Pirates Week, and several conference participants are expected to remain beyond the 7th November closing to enjoy our national festival.

While the conference will attract some international sponsors, the CIVMA conference committee are still in search of local business who may also participate.

“Community support will definitely help us make the conference outstanding for participants and give us an opportunity to simultaneously promote local businesses, locally produced goods and our “Caymankind” tourism opportunities,” CIVMA Director, Dr. Alfred Benjamin explained.

“It is our goal to provide the highest quality continuing education for our members while, at the same time, showcasing the impeccable hospitality, beauty, and potential business opportunities here in the Cayman Islands.”

Several sponsor categories are available and range from “Pinnacle” sponsor to program booklet advertisements. Other options include a cyber cafe, lunch, conference sessions and the closing banquet. Twenty-five exhibition booths are also available for companies and organisations that wish to participate via that medium.

Local sponsorship liaison, Dr. Brendan Lee may be contacted by email on [email protected] or by mail at Box 30992, Grand Cayman KY1-1204, CAYMAN ISLANDS.
