Cayman: Tragic Incident at NICE Program Briefing
It is with deep sadness and heavy heart, that we announce the passing of an individual at the morning briefing for the NICE Program today. The gentleman, whose identity will remain confidential pending family notification, tragically collapsed during the session. Immediate emergency protocols were followed; supervisors promptly called 911 and administered CPR until the emergency services arrived. Despite these efforts, the individual unfortunately passed away shortly after their arrival.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased and pledge our full support during this difficult period. We respectfully request that the privacy of the family is honoured as they navigate this tragic loss.
The NICE Program, initiated in 2015, exemplifies our commitment to enhancing the physical environment of the Cayman Islands and fostering community spirit. This tragic incident, occurring during our efforts to uplift the community, reminds us of the importance of togetherness in both celebration and sorrow.
The NICE programme invites unemployed Caymanians and the unemployed spouses of Caymanians who possess skills in repairs and maintenance, gardening, garbage collection, or cleaning parks, beaches, and roadside verges to become an integral part of this meaningful initiative.
While today is marked by sorrow, the NICE Project continues to stand as a symbol of our unity and the strength of our community. Each year, the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, and Infrastructure approves and supports the endeavour.
The Ministry is committed to ensuring that all program environments are safe and supportive for all participants. A full review of today’s incident will be conducted to prevent such occurrences in the future.
We appreciate the swift response of our emergency services and thank our community for their support and understanding during this time. We ask the media and public to join us in respecting the privacy of the family at this time. Further details will be provided as they become available.
