Two Charged in Relation to 2020 Governor’s Square Robbery

Following a detailed investigation, the RCIPS can confirm that two persons, a man age 25 of East End and a woman age 36 of George Town, have both been charged with Robbery in relation to the robbery at the Tortuga Liquor store in Governor’s Square on 7 February, 2020 (see below). The male has been further charged with Assault ABH. Both are due to appear before the Summary Court, tomorrow, 16 March.
Robbery on Lime Tree Bay Avenue,

Shortly after 9:00PM yesterday, 7 February, officers responded to a report of a robbery at Tortuga Liquor in Governor’s Square, Lime Tree Bay Avenue. Two males entered the store, brandishing knives, and demanded cash from an employee there. One of the men assaulted the employee and both males then made off on foot with a quantity of cash, one of them fleeing towards the rear of Cost-U-Less. Emergency services attended the scene and the employee was transported to hospital for treatment, and later discharged.
The suspects are described as being dressed in all black clothing, long pants, long sleeved shirts and gloves, with their faces covered.
The matter is currently under investigation and anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time or who may have any other information is asked to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

Arrests made for Drug Offenses following altercation with police

At about 10:00PM on Sunday, 14 March, officers responded to a report of suspicious activity on Ashgo Street in George Town. Whilst investigating, officers approached two men and a juvenile standing near a vehicle. One of the men violently resisted arrest and assaulted the officers, who deployed OC spray and were able to carry out the arrest. Subsequently, two officers were transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment and subsequently released.
Following the arrests, the vehicle was searched and officers recovered suspected cocaine and ganja, along with drug paraphernalia. The men, ages 21 of West Bay and 22 of George Town, and the juvenile, were further arrested on suspicion of consumption and possession of ganja with intent to supply, and possession and consumption of cocaine. The 21-year-old was also arrested for resisting arrest and assaulting police.
The two men remain in custody as investigations continue.
