Case #: 2016-12542

On Sunday, July 17, 2016, the Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Human Trafficking Enforcement Team started an investigation into a Human Trafficking occurrence.

It is alleged that:

– in 2015, a 23-year-old woman met a man through another male trafficker

– at this time, the man offered the woman asylum and a better life

– after using the pretence of a better life, the man forced the woman back into the sex trade for his own personal gain and demanded that she see more clients in order to make more money for him

– the man travelled to and from various hotels in the Greater Toronto Area with the woman to oversee her dates with clients

– the man told the woman to turn over all of her earnings to him

– the man would assault her and injure her dog to make her comply with all his demands

– the woman worked almost every night and turned all of the money over to the man

– the woman made approximately $200,000 for the man during this period

– the man used the money that the victim made from engaging in prostitution for jewelry, expensive clothing, rent and food for himself

– the man became increasingly verbally and physically abusive towards the woman, causing her injuries that required her to seek hospital attention

– police were then contacted and started an investigation.

On Monday, July 18, 2016, members of the Human Trafficking Enforcement Team arrested the man.
