Caymanians complete training in the beauty industry

Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC) offered scholarships to Caymanians to participate in the first-ever Professional Nails course at Cayman Career Academy (CCA) that commenced on January 9, 2023.

Through this collaboration, CCA made history on August 14, 2023, when its students passed the arduous Comite International d’Esthetique et de Cosmetologie (CIDESCO) Diploma in Professional Nail Services, making CCA the first CIDESCO school in the world to pass this prestigious exam.

This course is a 784-hour diploma that aims to provide candidates with the required information and qualifications to efficiently and effectively provide Professional Nail Services. The course is designed to give candidates the most comprehensive nail training and prepare them for a Nail career, including running their own nail business.

WORC would like to thank Cayman Career Academy’s staff, Ms. Jacqui Tomlinson-Smith (Principal), Ms. Wendy Lynch (Senior Lecturer), and Ms. Hannah Taylor (Lecturer), who worked diligently with students to ensure their success.

Congratulations to the four (4) students, Ms. Vynai Hamilton, Ms. Janaya Maxwell, Ms. Catherine Ebanks, and Ms. Nadia Powery, the first holders of the CIDESCO Diploma in Professional Nail Services globally.

Katherine Whittaker, Head of Labour Demands, Development & Training says, “WORC is pleased to have had the opportunity of partnering with Cayman Career Academy to provide Caymanians with scholarships within the Beauty Industry. We look forward to our continued partnership with CCA as we seek to introduce more Caymanians to this career pathway.”

Ms. Kimone Chambers, Acting Manager of the National Training and Development Unit (WORC), stated “I am immensely proud of the students, their hard work, and subsequent success. This certification will benefit their career paths as they climb the success ladder in the Beauty Industry.”
