Eight young persons are pursuing the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards at the annual Regional Camp, which is being held in Nassau, Bahamas.

‘The participants have been training since April. I am confident they will put in their best efforts and earn their awards,’ said the National Chairman of the Cayman Islands National Award Authority, Ms Katherine Jackson, Cert. Hon.

The participants have to prove their mettle in a series of exercises including a five day expedition, cultural activities and a community project. They will also be travelling through the islands with the Bahamas Postal Service that uses a boat to carry mail.

Two members of the Cayman Islands team, David Mitchell and Adeline Sulley, will also participate in a leadership course.

Besides the Bahamas and Cayman Islands, other countries represented at this annual regional camp are Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Anguilla, Barbados, Turks and Caicos, and Bermuda.

Also, Ms Jackson represented the Cayman Islands at the Caribbean Award Sub-Regional Council’s annual general meeting that was held on Saturday, 28 July.

The two week camp concludes on 14 August and the Cayman Islands’ contingent is expected to return home successfully completing the assignment.
