Cayman’s Health Ministry gets new Chief Financial Officer

NellieFollowing an open competition recruitment process, another Caymanian has been promoted to the rank of Chief Financial Officer. After three years as its Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Nellie Pouchie-Solomon has moved into the top financial position at the Ministry of Health.

Deputy Governor Franz Manderson expressed his congratulations to Ms. Pouchie-Solomon. “This is a text book example of how the Civil Service is providing opportunities for Caymanians. Ms Pouchie -Solomon was recruited from the Private Sector and as a result of her outstanding performance she has earned a promotion in just three years. I wish her continued success”.

Some of her primary responsibilities include preparation of the Ministry’s budget, forecasting financials, Monthly/Quarterly/Annual reporting, cash management, and oversight of financial aspects of the Ministry and other related departments.

A Certified Public Accountant since 2003, during her time in the private sector she gained considerable experience in various key aspects of the Cayman Islands’ financial services industry, such as audit; banking; captive insurance management; fund accounting; and trusts.

Since joining the public sector she says, “My time at the Ministry has allowed me to utilize my skills in the development of policies/procedures/controls around the areas of procurement; transactional processes; audit schedules, due diligence and much more”, said Ms. Pouchie-Solomon.

“Although having been in the role for just 3 short months, Nellie has demonstrated that she will be an asset to our Ministry, already bringing valuable expertise and organizational skills to the table,” said Chief Officer for the Ministry of Health, Jennifer Ahearn.

Although an easy-going, family-oriented person who enjoys spending time with her husband Newton and their poodle named ‘Miley’, many also describe the new Chief Financial Officer as a workaholic.

She says she looks forward “to using my skills and sharing my past work experiences in order to make a positive difference in the Civil Service.”
