Cayman’s professional accountants announce first CEO

Sheree0148b 2February 21, 2014.  George Town, Grand Cayman:    The Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants (CISPA),  one the largest and longest established professional societies in the Cayman Islands is pleased to announce that Sheree Ebanks has been appointed as CISPA’s first CEO.

Mrs. Ebanks was previously with Butterfield Bank in the Cayman Islands where her last position was as Director and Head of Wealth Management.  She was also responsible for the Bank’s public relations.  Mrs. Ebanks began her career in financial services in 1974 with CIBC in Grand Cayman and includes a wide range of industry experience covering asset management, fiduciary services, corporate governance and regulatory issues.

Sheree has participated in a number of Government advisory groups, is a former director of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange and has held and continues to hold a number of private and public sector board positions.

“We selected Sheree because of her extensive experience in the financial services industry as well as the relationships and number of positions she has held within the Cayman community.  We welcome Sheree’s experience and leadership to the association and look forward to her contributions toward the continued development of CISPA”, said Graeme Sunley, President.

Mrs. Ebanks stated “I am honoured to have been selected as the first CEO of CISPA.  I am excited to join an organisation at such a juncture in its development and look forward to contributing to the continued growth and development of not just the profession, but also CISPA’s position as a recognised participant in ensuring the on-going credibility and sustainability of financial services in the Cayman Islands”.

Mrs. Ebanks holds an MBA (Distinction) in Leadership from the University of Liverpool.  She currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Governors of UCCI and is a member of a number of societies and associations both locally and internationally.

CISPA was formed in the Cayman Islands in 1970 and has evolved into one of the largest professional societies in the Cayman Islands.  CISPA has responsibility for licensing accounting practitioners in the Cayman Islands and in 2013 became a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the worldwide organisation representing the accountancy profession.  CISPA is dedicated to serving public interest through the regulation of the accounting profession and promoting the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in line with the values of transparency, proportionality and accountability.
