CONCACAF.com KINGSTON, Jamaica – March 29, 2014 – Bayamon FC and Waterhouse claimed semifinal places in the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship, finishing first in their groups following the conclusion of opening round action on Tuesday. CONCACAF.com recaps all the action from the Caribbean’s annual club championship, which also doubles as a qualifying competition for the CONCACAF Champions League.
Group 1 (Bayamon, Puerto Rico)
Group 1 play ended with three teams in a tie for first place on five points each, but Bayamon FC progressed on superior goal difference.
The Vaqueros, who drew 1-1 with Unite Saint Rosienne (USR) of Guadeloupe, posted a 5-0 win over the Cayman Islands’ Bodden Town in the tournament opener for each on Friday. That result proved to be the deciding factor as it ultimately provided the Puerto Rican side with a final +5 cushion to overcome Centro Dominguito (+2) and USR (+1).
Needing only a draw to advance, Bayamon took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute through Juan Velez. Just when it appeared as if the host would take full points, USR’s Loic Roman equalized in the second minute of stoppage time, making for a tense final few moments.
In the first game of the evening, Centro Dominguito reached the table’s summit temporarily with a 4-2 victory over Bodden Town. Bernardus Shayron (52’, 71’) netted a brace in a winning effort, while the Curacao-based side also got an early goal from Kemoy Reid (3’) and was aided by a Santangelo Bush (50’) own-goal.
After being shutout in its first two games, Bodden Town tallied twice on strikes from Tevon Levien (35’) and Wesley Robinson (58’).
Group 2 (Mirebalais, Haiti)
At the Stade Bayas, Waterhouse confirmed its semifinal status with a 4-0 win over Caledonia AIA. The result ended the Trinidadian side’s bid for a third straight appearance in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Kenroy Howell (34’) scored the first half’s only goal as the Jamaicans sealed the victory with three second-half strikes.
After the break, Romario Campbell (50’) and Juvaune Benjamin (78’) netted their second goals of the competition, while Kimorlie Brisset (87’) punctuated the scoreline late.
Waterhouse concluded Group 2 play with a perfect 3-0-0 record, scoring an impressive 10 goals and conceding only three.
In the nightcap, a crowd of 2,500 watched AS Mirebalais secure its first points of the tournament with a 2-1 win over Suriname’s Inter Moengotapoe. Woodwige Gauthier (45’) and Leandro Antonio Campos Mendes (69’) netted a goal each in a winning effort, while Amakitie Massie (31’) was on target for the Surinamese side.
Group 3 (Harbour View, Jamaica)
Trinidad & Tobago international Devorn Jorsling (55’, 86’) hit for a second-half double to give Defence Force a 2-0 victory over host Harbour View.
With only pride at stake after Guyana’s Alpha United won group on Sunday, Defence Force was boosted by the observance of a minute of silence to remember former player Kevon Carter, who passed away last month.

The semifinals will be played between Alpha United, Bayamon FC, Waterhouse and first-round bye recipient Valencia of Haiti at a site to be determined, starting on April 16. The eventual finalists and winner of the match for third place will qualify for the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League.
