Charles Kirkconnell International Airport to get makeover
Brac construction firm DSS Contractors has been chosen to carry out the renovation work. They will enhance international commercial passenger operations at the airport in the larger of the two Sister Islands. Initially, the work will include relocating sewerage facilities, constructing a temporary outdoor baggage area, creating a temporary interior baggage corridor and demolishing the existing exterior baggage area.
The plan for the project has been set in a way where 6,816-square-foot addition to the east end of the existing terminal building will be done in the first phase. This additional place will have check-in area, restrooms, security room, baggage screening, enlarged departure lounge and relocated cafe/bar. Later in the second phase, 4,670-square-foot addition space will be constructed in the west as new baggage claim area. The airport extension plan has been approved on 7 May 2012.
