Christmas Tree Lighting
The Annual Rotary Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony took place last Thursday (17) at Heroes Square, Central George Town on Grand Cayman.
It was a truly delightful evening and meant Christmas in the Cayman Islands had officially commenced.
This was the 51st time the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman has staged this event and this year for me the highlight was the singing and dancing by the Church of God Chapel Children’s Choir. They danced and sang their little hearts out.
Isadora Ferrao played and sang most beautifully at the start and end of the event with well known Christmas songs and encouraged the big crowd to join in. My favourite was “Santa’s Got a Sunburn” as it was the many children present as they were dancing to it behind where I was sitting.
Also taking part were Joey Hew who kept the evening moving along as Master of Ceremonies, Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin, Pr Andrew Ebanks, Rotary President Katherine Tathum (who was assisted by her daughter), and the tree was lit by Past Rotary President Lynda Mitchell.
Last but by no means forgotten was an appearance by Santa Claus himself.
To all those who weren’t there, you missed a wonderful evening that was also FREE.
Make sure you come next year. It put all of us in the true Christmas spirit.
