CHTA Statement: Hurricane Matthew
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) registers its sadness at the loss of life and property following the passage of Hurricane Matthew throughout the Caribbean.
We send our thoughts and prayers to the families and communities that have been impacted by this powerful storm, and convey our earnest hopes for a timely recovery to the people of our region.
We are especially concerned about the people of Haiti where the loss of life has been great. Many more are now struggling to pick up the pieces there and in other nations impacted by the storm.
CHTA remains at our members’ disposal to assist them during these trying circumstances. We are proud of the way our members are supporting each other and our guests to the region; and as they open their doors to our communities.
We are humbly reminded once again that sometimes, despite our best planning and preparation efforts, we are vulnerable to these types of disasters.
CHTA will work closely with our public sector partner, the Caribbean Tourism Organization, and our Diaspora communities to help coordinate relief to the region.
Meanwhile, let us unite in support of those who have borne and are continuing to bear the brunt of this powerful storm.
As we have experienced on numerous occasions, our resilience and reliance on one another will take us through.
