CIBA thank DART

9414465The Cayman Islands Boxing Association (CIBA) have publicly thanked DART Cayman Islands who are corporate sponsor of the Extended After School Boxing Programme committing $45,000 over a three year period.

The Youth Boxing Programme is an initiative between the boxing association and the Ministry of Education’s Extended After School Programme.

The programme provides youth in the Cayman Islands with the opportunity to safely and conveniently explore boxing while also finding an extra-curricular outlet that promotes fitness, self-confidence, discipline and leadership.

“The endorsement and support of DART will allow us to open the after school programme up to more children and enable us to purchase needed gym equipment and put in place adequate resources to properly teach the kids,” said boxing association president Terence Spencer.

Recently, two teenage boxers, Tafari Ebanks and Diego Rodriguez, who first went to the Cayman Islands Boxing Association gym through the after school programme returned from training with the Cuban Olympic team.

They also participated in the Cardin Cup and Bolado Cup in Cuba which are elite competitions featuring the best boxers in the world.

Tafari has also been appointed captain of the Cayman Islands national boxing team.

It is the hope of the after school programme coordinators that Tafari’s story can inspire and motivate other kids to be just as driven.

The Cayman Islands Boxing Association (CIBA) is the governing body for the sport in the Cayman Islands and is responsible for the administration, development and promotion of boxing throughout the country and internationally on the CIBA’s behalf. The CIBA continually strives to develop the sport through effective governance and strong leadership ensuring that our youth develop through the sport.

The CIBA has grown and developed as a result of meeting the goals set out by the past board of Directors and members however as the landscape of the sport has changed the organization is aiming to set new goals and objectives for its 3 sectors: the board of the association, the boxers and the coaches & officials.

Core to the success of the strategy is the organization’s leadership, governance, operations and staffing structure. The financial contribution by the public and private sector enables the CIBA to employ a professional team to work alongside the volunteers to add value, empower, develop and build capacity, enabling increased participation and enhancing member satisfaction. Below are the visions that we hope to drive forward with your support.

Vision

1.     To provide a program that meets the needs of the youth in the Cayman Islands, allowing us to engage young people in activities that enable them to grow and reach their full potential in and outside the boxing gym.

2.     To excel with medal winning success at the Olympic Games and other events put on for the sport.

3.     To encourage sustained membership through the development of a high  quality experience, nurturing the sport with increased capacity and participation.
