CIFA appoints Moxam as director of national teams

Moxam_WebbarticleThe Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) announced today the appointment of Renard Moxam as Director of national teams, effective April 2014.

Mr. Moxam is the first professional football player from the Cayman Islands and will oversee the design and implementation of programmes aimed at identifying the best national talent.

Mr. Moxam brings extensive experience in the nurturing and coaching of Cayman’s youth players for the past three decades and has served as a Director on the Academy Sports Club board.

“We are certain, that Mr. Moxam’s vast experience and passion for the game will strongly benefit our aim of developing a world class national programme,” said CIFA President Jeffrey Webb.

President Webb added, “Mr. Moxam’s achievements inspired me and an entire generation and we know he will shape the future of generations to come.”

Mr. Moxam said, “Firstly, I want to say thanks to CIFA and in particular to President Jeff Webb for affording me the official capacity and opportunity towards continuing making positive contributions and assisting in shaping the lives of our young people via this magnificent sport of football.”

He added, “There is a need for improvements in standards of play from technical, tactical, physical and mental perspectives in order for our country to acquire equal regional recognition, as a footballing country. To accomplish this objective, we have to build a positive dynamic footballing culture wherein a high level of conduct consistently exists, there is an overall sense of responsibility, and a positive atmosphere for character development of our young people is prevalent.”

In 1979, Moxam became Cayman’s first professional sportsman when he signed for the Toronto Blizzard in the North American Soccer League.
